A maternity unit together with staff accommodation, on the site of an existing primary healthcare clinic at the Chilaweni Village, Blantyre was constructed and outfitted. Since it opened in January 2021, 167 babies were born.
Kumbukeni’s first baby was delivered at another facility, where sadly, she was shouted at and not treated with much respect. She commented that she loved the nurses at the new maternity clinic, because they smiled and treated her well. She thought the facilities were really nice and commented that she was aware that partners are made welcome, but her husband could not attend due to work. Kumbukeni managed to attend 6 antenatal visits during her pregnancy, which is really encouraging.
