A maternity unit together with staff accommodation, on the site of an existing primary healthcare clinic at the Chilaweni Village, Blantyre was constructed and outfitted. Since it opened in January 2021, 167 babies were born.
Annie Magran, aged 22, from Mulenga Village with her second baby, called Loveness. “The care was holistic and I appreciated the privacy I was given in the cubicle. I was so warmly received by the nurses, whom I loved. It was a very different experience to when I delivered my first baby.”
Linda Nickson, aged 18 from Somanje Village with her first baby, Florence. “When I came for my first antenatal check, I was so warmly welcomed by the staff. I managed 5 antenatal visits and during my delivery, the staff were so kind.”
