Achievements and Challenges of Agricultural Colleges in Madagascar

4 March 2025

The second semester of 2024 was marked by several important initiatives and achievements in the Fekama agricultural colleges in Madagascar. Notable activities included the organization of a national pedagogical regrouping, which allowed the teams from the agricultural colleges and the Fekama coordination to share their experiences and challenges. The 2024/2025 academic year began on September 16, 2024, with a steady enrollment of 337 students in preliminary training.

The colleges faced an extended period of drought that affected water management and educational farms. However they maintained their continued efforts to improve infrastructure and developed many extracurricular activities. For example, the construction of a new laundry facility at the Befandriana agricultural college and the installation of streetlights at the Ambalavao agricultural college.

The youths also benefited from computer training, allowing them to familiarize themselves with digital tools and improve their skills. Educational farms expanded with more fish ponds and new beehives.

Diversification and improvement of the students diet were a priority with awareness training on balanced diets. The youths enjoyed the fruits produced by the fruit trees of the colleges and took part in training on the processing of agricultural products.

Finally, efforts to improve the learning of young girls continued, with particular attention to fair access to infrastructure and learning. Third-year students completed practical internships with mentors, thus strengthening their agricultural skills.
