Rita’s testimonial

Read Rita’s testimonial, she is one of the 30 marginalized young women (aged 16 to 25) who is being supported and empowered through vocational training combined with mentoring thanks to the project led by the Wonder Foundation, recognizing her true value and enabling her to achieve her potential. Specifically, the accredited vocational training is in the hospitality industry at Yarani.

Initially, I wasn't sure what I wanted to become in life. I faced challenges because I lost confidence in myself during secondary school. I doubted everything I did, and even simple tests were difficult for me. Whenever someone asked me what I wanted to do in future I would just think about it. One day, someone suggested hospitality, and although I wasn't sure at first, I eventually developed a passion for it once I started studying at Yarani.

I often talk about Yarani with my mom and my brothers. When I started studying here I had my own attitudes and ways of thinking, but being here has taught me many things and changed my behavior, which has impressed them.

What I like most about my studies are the professors. They are very kind and passionate about what they do, especially Patricia, who teaches cooking, my favorite subject. My favorite dish to prepare is a traditional sauce made with pistachio and eaten with foutu, which is made of cassava and banana.

The most interesting things I have learned through mentoring are friendship and self-control. I am proud of how I have changed and what I have learned. Before coming to Yarani, I didn't like to wake up early or help others. But living in the dormitory has taught me to help others and manage my life better. My relationship with my family has also improved, as I now understand the importance of hard work and education. Yarani has provided me with entrepreneurial ideas and has helped me in various aspects of my life. It has strengthened my family ties, highlighted my weaknesses, and shown me how to improve before exams. Practically, I have learned new things and improved on what I already knew. With the help of my mentor, I have improved and gained more confidence. Overall, it has been a very positive experience, and I look forward to continuing.

After Yarani, my dream is to work in a good hotel, be appointed as a chef, and eventually create my own business.
